Budo/Martial Arts · Kyudo

Just One

Just one thing.

That’s what kyudo is trying to teach us.

That’s why we do all the annoying things we are told to do.

Sit in kiza when we take off and put on our glove.

Put down our bow when we grab our arrows.

Only shoot two arrows at a time.

But goddamn I can’t help but wonder who it was that walked through the door just now,

what it was I was supposed to buy on my way home,

or how I’m going to get rich and retire so I can just do kyudo, climb mountains, and drink beer all day long everyday.

I’m trying to grab my arrows, take my arrows, and hit my arrows all at the same time.

No wonder I’m all over the place,

cause I’m all over the place.

So just one damn thing at a time, because it feels better, it works better, it looks better, and it is not about doing something “better”.

If we can shoot the bow, while only shooting the bow, then well, we’re on the highway to heaven. So let’s get started on that, because I think that’s something that we can do.
